January Meeting Report

January 23, 2014

Tyna-Minet Anderson, Kerry Thompson, Dianna Graham, Amy Tams, Sarah Peterson, Jamie Frischknecht, and Jessica Anderson attended our January meeting. Tyna-Minet hosted and served a lovely array of snacks.

We discussed Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell. While everyone agreed that the book was interesting, there were some frustrations. The studies and chapters seemed to be contradictory and without a clear conclusion in mind. But the writing was good and the studies were fascinating. We had a good discussion about various aspects of the book.

Then, we moved on to selecting books for the next few months. This is always a fun, if difficult, process. We tried to even the list out with light and heavy fare, fiction and nonfiction, and a relative mix of genres. Here’s what we came up with:

February – And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie
March – Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand
April – The Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare
May – The Gift of Fear, by Gavin de Becker
June – North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell
