August Meeting Report

August 28, 2012

Kerry Thompson, Sherry White, Amy Tams, Lynette Lawson and her friend Abba, and Jessica Anderson attended our August meeting. We held the meeting al fresco in Jessica’s backyard and had strawberry lemonade and cheesecake.

The verdict was fairly unanimous on Edenbrooke: loved. We all enjoyed reading the book. While we agreed that it felt like there were come discrepancies with the time period, we agreed that it didn’t really end up mattering. The writing, particularly the dialogue was excellent and we could hardly put it down.

After we chatted for a while, we were able to Skype with Ms. Julianne Donaldson herself. We enjoyed chatting with her and asking her questions. We asked about her writing method and her inspirations and her current book, Blackmoore, which is due out next summer! When we asked about her philosophy on writing books with happy endings, she responded with the excellent quote from Jane Austen: “Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery.”

Overall, it was a lovely time.
