June Meeting Report

June 26, 2012

Kerry Thompson, Amy Tams, and Jessica Anderson attended our June meeting. Amy graciously hosted at the last minute and made delicious chocolate cookies.

We had a good time discussing Ender’s Game.  Our discussion mostly focused around the fact that this was one of the first major science fiction books and was way ahead of our time.  The “desks” in the book bare an uncanny resemblance to iPads, for example.  We also discussed genius kids, the Valentine/Peter plot, the dead giant dream, Ender’s distaste for violence, and the twist ending.

Then we turned our thoughts to selecting books for the next several months.  Here is the schedule so far:

July – No meeting
AugustEdenbrooke, by Julianne Donaldson
SeptemberThe Woman in White, by Wilkie Collins
October – TBD (possibly The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald)
November/DecemberThe Mansion, by Henry Van Dyke
January – TBD
