June Meeting Report

June 23, 2011

Our sixth meeting was very successful. Those in attendance were Sherry White, Lorraine Peck, Amy Tams, Lynette Lawson, and Jessica Anderson. Amy was an excellent hostess and served delicious strawberry shortcake.

Our discussion of I Capture the Castle covered a range of subjects from the sensibilities at the time it was written to our modern impatience with some of the characters and from the lovely descriptions of the castle to the plot similarities to Pride and Prejudice. While the book was generally liked, most people expected a little more from it.

Then we moved on to planning for the next several months. A couple of important things to note:

1. There will be no meeting in July.
2. The August meeting will be on a Thursday at 7:00 p.m., as usual.
3. Starting with the September meeting, the meetings will change to Tuesday evenings.

See the Meetings page for an always up-to-date schedule.

After much discussion, the following are the upcoming selections:
AugustPrincess Academy, by Shannon Hale
SeptemberThe Help, by Kathryn Stockett
OctoberFrankenstein, by Mary Shelley OR Dracula, by Bram Stoker
November/DecemberThe Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens
JanuaryIn the Woods, by Tana French

We’ll see you in August!
