March Meeting Report

March 24, 2011

We had an intimate third gathering. Three members attended: Jamie Frischknecht, Sarah Peterson, and Jessica Anderson. Jamie made some delicious cookie bars (and allowed us to watch the last bit of the BYU game).

We had a good discussion of The Glass Castle. Though we all agreed that the subject matter was bleak and rather horrific, we all enjoyed the reading experience. The author was fairly upbeat about her upbringing and managed to step back and tell the story without being judgmental.

We also managed to squeeze in some other book talk. Here’s what we’ve been reading:

  • The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak (Sarah read this recently and liked it, but found it to be a bit slow)
  • Sarah’s Key, by Tatiana de Rosnay (Jamie finished this one and enjoyed the historical facts, but thought the book kind of petered out at the end)
  • I Am the Messenger, by Markus Zusak (Jessica really liked this one, but warned that it does have some “adult” elements)

What have you been reading?
